This place has the best pastrami sandwich ever thank you Flaco this place won't disappoint you i promise
This is the best sandwich shop in SF. I come here almost everyday. Amazing staff, quality service and very authentic mission ambiance.
This sandwich shop has been here for over 30yrs, serving up delicious sandwiches of all kind. Juan the owner is a super cool dude. Not only does he serve great food, he is constantly helping the homeless with food and making calls on their behalf to social services. Definitely, definitely go here and grab lunch.
Huge and delicious sandwiches! The owner Juan is a bundle of wisecracking energy - such a fun guy and you can tell that lots of folks are regulars. The Sandwich Place now joins Roxy Food Center and Deli Board on my list of best sandwiches in SF. Be warned that there is little seating and zero atmosphere. Grab your sandi and head to Delores Park like we did!
Food is great my favorite is the Veggie one "The Sophie Delight" very yummy no need of meat at all. Juan is awesome with all customers even during very peak times.
Just want to say if u happen to desire a delicious sandwich. Stop by this great little place. You will not regret it. You will always get serviced by the owner. His a great man watm heart and always helping his mission community. I highly recommend his place. I will never change this spot. Ask for Juan the owner.
Amazing food! Order ahead if one of the steak / parm hot sandwiches to skip line. The line has a fun vibe to it too. If you get the larger size usually worth it bc you can save half for later.
44 years. Count it. You get reminded of Smashing Pumpkin's song, "1979". When you walk in you get the impression that nothing is much going on but that's like most place sin the Mission. You constantly get the subversion that belies the legends and stories of some culinary gem that hides in the walls, faux Victorians, and old multi-unit apartment buildings and old conversions and this establishment was no different. Salsa music blasting from a boombox or bluetooth speaker, somewhere, can be heard as one can look around and tell that the place has some history and with that, the changes to reflect the times. "That's great but what about the food?!" Alright: so the sandwiches that are made are the stuff that used to be commonly made throughout the sandwich eateries in San Francisco county but the thing is that those places are dwindling to nothing. No one makes the kind of sandwiches that I dub as "1980s style." What's a "1980's style" deli sandwich? Easy: it's a sandwich that has this right blend of cold cuts, mayonaise, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and, wait for it, black pepper - the signature condiment of the times. Oh sure you can go anywhere else that touts things like "zesty herb Italina garlic aioli" or whatever - the kind of stuff that Whole Foods capitalized on during the 2010s when creeping around opening up places throughout San Francisco. No this, this is **classic** 1980's style San Francisco deli sandwiches. It's basic, it's to the point, and it packs a punch that will make you too start believing you are a high powered mergers and acquisitions investment banker, on his way to a meeting at the Pacific Exchange (PCX) while listening to Robert Palmer's new cassette release on your Sony Walkman. Simply irresistable indeed. Is the owner weird? Maybe. I mean it's San Francisco what do you want the whole city is on permanent Holloween holiday in one form or another. But as far as I know he's are straight forward as they come so when you're ready have your orders ready, answer promptly, and you'll walk away with a bag with a sandwich, a bag of chips, and a soda. #sandwiches #letthemadnessreignsupreme
Oh my thou-shall-not-use-thy-Lord's-name-in-vain!!! I was so impressed with the sandwiches and service that I had to leave a review as soon as I finished scarfing down my lunch. 1) Sandwiches: We ordered the Sophie's Delight (veggie sandwich with portobello mushrooms, roasted bell pepper, cheese, tomatoes, red onion, fresh basil and sun dried tomato Mayo. My vegetarian boyfriend was like Mmmmm after the first bite, he insisted for me to take a bite to try it too. I had The Deluxe which is a Turkey sandwich with cheese, avocado, tomato, lettuce and CRISPY bacon. I was very happy with mine and the ingredients were portioned very well and balanced. Everything tasted so fresh! I loved that the bread pulls apart when I bite into it. 2) Service: I called in the order and the gentleman who answered the phone was enthusiastic, quick and efficient. When I arrived, he saw me hop out of my double parked car (boyfriend was driving). He assumed correctly who I was and got my order ready before I even made it to the counter. He said he noticed I'm double parked and will quickly get me sorted so that I don't get a ticket. Quick and efficient...if you know me, you know I appreciate efficiency!! He (wish I got his name) was thoughtful and friendly. As soon as I got back into the car, my boyfriend said "whoa that was quick!" This was my first visit to The Sandwich Place. It's a lot better than the overpriced $16 bougie sandwiches we bought nearby last weekend. Bougie doesn't always mean better!! We are already talking about this being our go-to sandwich spot in that area. Will be back FOR SURE!
